Pearl is coming in as a veteran, having been here since just before Purgatory. She's probably kept to herself during Liminal Spaces except for a few initial freakouts about needing to be back home and being alone and not being around to protect Steven or the Earth. She's... still unsure about what to do with all these humans. So many humans.

During Purgatory, Pearl was a demon who never would have fallen if she hadn't been following her angelic commander... but she could never walk away from her. She could be summoned to teach sorcery or any form of combat, always for a price.

During Questing Country, Pearl was the Hecatite Oracle of Devotion. Having recently bounced back from going Pillar after losing her closest bondmate, she would have been willing to teach and guide new dreamers, and may have come to the rescue of anyone in danger, but would have avoided getting too involved in the valence quest itself.

Pearl was on walkabout for Lightning Age. She doesn't remember what she was doing, but now that she's back, she is Very Disappointed in you all.

obviously not for Connie, and Persephone probably wouldn't have given two shits about her tbh unless she got crashed directly into a panic attack, but.

She could've definitely been a contact for Cain in Purgatory. Maybe she taught Cain some of her combat skills WAAAAAAAY back in the past? OOO. WHAT IF SHE WAS THE ONE WHO TAUGHT CAIN HER WHISPER-BREEZE TRICK?

And then there's always the possibility of bumping into each other in limspace.

Ooooooh, yes. Yes, if you're okay with it, she could totally have taught Cain sorcery and some combat. But the whisper thing seems especially Pearl somehow.

I kind of like the idea that they've totally missed each other in Limspace so far and then they finally run into each other and are like "...wait. You're actually a Traveler?"

uh I wouldn't have brought it UP if i wasn't ok with it, I am officially going with that. Mwahahah. but yes, having missed each other in limspace up until she gets in and them going "WHHHHHHAAAT?" is a good plan.

because I"m pretty sure we kind of quasi-settled on five. Or maybe that was just me?

So Rose died, Pearl went pillar, Luci went adversary, and then Kore kept up with Ser for a while before dropping off the face of the dreamworld for a while.

But like. Lucifer would want to AVOID THE HELL out of her because of it, which is good for you. And Laura would probably feel compelled to say hi, at least, which is good for ME.

Omg YEEEEEES. I'm pretty sure five was the number too, at least in my head, so that works out great. And explains why that group exploded as thoroughly as it did.

I think it's likely Pearl and Joscelin interacted in Liminal Space before her first Jaunt - he still sometimes tries to bring new people up to speed - and in Questing country, it would make sense for their infil-selves to have been acquainted.

...but yes I am very on board with both of these things. She'd like Joscelin very quickly even with her general uncertainty about humans. In Questing Country... he may have known her before she went Pillar? Bc she was an Oracle before then too. So he'd probably be happy to see her coming back to herself....

Basically I want all the extremely devoted knight bros. I think they'll have really great CR and I can't wait to throw Pearl at him for real.

I like the idea that Pearl and Byerly's infi-selves were acquainted or perhaps even (former?) friends during Questing Country? He was the human Pillar of Hands, formerly the Champion of Truth. (He went Pillar after breaking with his family in a particularly messy fashion, some time before the valence quest started. He spent the entire thing being catty and sarcastic.)

I'd love if they were friends before they one or both of them went Pillar. (Idk which one of them would have gone first - Pearl's thing would have happened when her bondgroup imploded around the time of the last valence quest, so it might have been her?)

Tbh Pearl would have been pretty depressing to be around as a Pillar, more withdrawn and fatalistic, but eventually something must have drawn her out of it and back to caring about things. Idk if By would want to deal with her as a Pillar given that??? But if he was around her when he went Pillar, she'd have been quietly supportive. She doesn't talk about things unless pressed, but she can do quiet support.

It might have been have been Pearl first? It sort of sounded like the last valence was years ago and By went pillar under a year ago. He'd have appreciated that support and maybe told her about what happened.

(It's pretty much what happened to him in his canon when he was nineteen. Someone falsely accused him of molesting his sister and his father believed the accuser over his children.)

He was a very flashy and flamboyant kind of champion, with a flair for the dramatic and a love of hearing himself talk and if they were friends she'd probably have known his infiltration's first name which was Borya.

...oh poor By. And I think the last valence was... four or five years ago? So Pearl first. He definitely sounds like someone she'd have been fond of as a Champion (in a somewhat exasperated way).

Yeah. I mean, we don't get to read it happen--the first time he shows up in canon he's in his early thirties--but we hear about it later and it's implied to be one of those things that one's entire life is a reaction to, for better or worse.

Fond in an exasperated way is about the best you can hope from people when you're him, tbh.

Pearl and Genevieve, elegant ballet anxiety friends?

Gen would definitely want to comfort Pearl during her meltdowns, distract her with things that make her happy instead, so she'd be mostly a "I found you!" Liminal friend, maybe?

Would you like to have Thorne and Pearl to have some run-ins post-Questing Country, especially since Pearl's buds with Joscelin and Thorne's his student? She possibly might have also been questioned by Charoite back when she was on her Selene-hunt, although once she realized Pearl was another knightly type she might have backed off.

Yes, this works for me! Oracle!Pearl would have been very sympathetic and very annoyed she couldn't divine anything to help Charoite, since that should have fallen right into her archetype...

Post-Jaunt Pearl would have been very relieved to find she wasn't actually a gem, because basically every other gem in the universe wants her dead and that is not a thing she wants to deal with.

Weee talked about Phillip being around to help calm her down when she first arrived if that would still be helpful?

Yes, I'm still good with that! Someone to abort her initial panic attack by being Steven's age and nice at her would still have been helpful.
